Welcome to St. John Lutheran Church
St. John Lutheran Church is located in rural Dieterich, south of town. We are a Missouri Synod church. During Sunday service Pastor Gillett holds a Treasure Box message for children ages 2 to 12 and communion is given every Sunday. We hold a brunch the second Sunday of November, a kids carnival every fall, and a joint Vacation Bible School with St. Paul Lutheran Church every summer (rotating locations). The church has a Ladies Aid and is part of Effingham-Shelby zone LWML (Lutheran Womens Missionary League). A committee of women from St. John Lutheran Church make around 100 quilts every year that are donated to Lutheran World Relief and Orphan Grain Train. St. John Lutheran Church is a participating congregation in the Lutheran Care Center located in Altamont. We partner with the other local parishes in the Effingham-Shelby zone to assist in making large print bibles. A committee assists the Kluthe Center in delivering Meals on Wheels on a rotational basis to the Dieterich/Newtown area. St. John Lutheran Church supports Blidene Luteran Church in Blidene, Latvia. We serve our community as well as other areas of the world not to do good works, but to thank God for what he has given us, eternal life.
